UPPER DEPARTMENT STATEMENT (Post 16)

One of the main aims in the Upper Department is to deliver learning in the right environment, as well as prioritising skills which are directly related to an individual’s future life

By offering real opportunities to develop work based skills and embed “functional skills” in practical and relevant activities, not only can  we focus on the development of social and independent skills, but also develop Core Skills, Travel Training and Community and Enterprise projects,  which supports the achievement of their learning goals and career aims

Over the two or three years in the Upper department, each student will complete specific targeted AQA units from Core Skills (in English + Mathematics), Options and then follow either the ‘Explore Learning Course (EL)’, ‘Vocational Studies Course’(VS), or ‘Foundation Studies Course’ (FS) depending on the type of learner. Some students may complete units in either ‘EL or VS, or VS and FS courses.

We also aim to provide an individualised transition support for students at all stages of Transition, both pre and post 18, sourcing the most appropriate placement for each student, facilitating liaison with Care Co-ordinators, Social Work, Colleges and Service providers
